Itinerary

Arrive at Manchester airport and collect your rental car. With time to adjust and relax, make the most of the Visit Manchester Pass, which offers entry to some of the city’s top attractions and experiences. Settle into your hotel for your first of two nights in Manchester.

Continue exploring with the Visit Manchester Pass. Whether it’s museums, galleries, football stadiums, or historic houses, the pass allows you to discover the highlights of the city at your own pace.

Depart Manchester and begin the scenic drive north, travelling through the Yorkshire Dales, where rolling hills and stone-built villages provide a picturesque backdrop. Continue onwards to the Lake District, where you will for three nights.

Spend the day exploring the beauty of the Lake District. Enjoy a cruise on Lake Windermere, followed by a charming heritage railway journey.

Set out on a Six Lakes Spectacular Tour, sit back and let someone else do the driving, while you take in the spectacular scenery. This half-day excursion takes you across dramatic landscapes, hidden valleys, and glittering lakes, offering breathtaking scenery and photo opportunities. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure, perhaps exploring independently, consider visiting Dove Cottage or Hilltop farm. Be sure the visit Grasmere and stop in at the Grasmere Gingerbread shop.

Depart the Lake District and journey towards Newcastle, travelling via the dramatic landscapes of Northumberland National Park. Along the way, stop to visit Chester’s Roman Fort on Hadrian’s Wall, a fascinating insight into Britain’s Roman history. Arrive in Newcastle where you will spend the night.

Travel for York, stopping to visit Beamish – The Living Museum of the North, where history is brought to life with working trams, traditional shops, and costumed interpreters. Continue to York, where you may wish to wander the famed Shambles or visit the magnificent York Minster, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe. Spend the next two nights in York.

This morning take the opportunity to ride the North York Moors Railway, a nostalgic steam journey across beautiful moorland scenery, or choose to explore the moors by car at your own pace. After a day immersed in Yorkshire’s landscapes, return to York.

Depart York and travel back to Manchester, taking the scenic route through the Peak District National Park, known for its rugged landscapes, charming villages, and winding country roads. Spend a final night in Manchester.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and return your rental car.
